Dogs
Common problems:
What are some common problems in dogs and how can they be prevented?
Ear infections are very common in canines as their ear canals are mostly vertical. Therefore it is easy for excess moisture and debris to be retained there. Ear mites, excessive hair, wax and foreign bodies can contribute to the development of an ear infection.
Dermatitis is a chronic skin disease that is usually associated with allergies. Allergies are just as common in dogs as they are in humans. Sometimes canines suffer from flea allergic dermatitis where an allergic hypersensitivity to flea saliva is caused. Dermatitis usually presents with raw skin, rashes and hair loss.
Gastritis is when the stomach lining is inflamed or infected. In most cases it presents with vomiting, diarrhea and can lead to dehydration. Gastritis usually is not severe, but if the vomiting persists for more than 24 hours, medical attention should be sought. Just like human Gastritis, canine Gastritis can be caused by a number things.
